Parker Browne's Art

Teaching Philosophy
My teaching philosophy is the student over everything. Another philosophy I want to implement in my teaching is the student is the artist. I have been in mostly teacher centered classrooms through my k-12 learning experiences and I want students in my class to feel like artists in a studio space and not just students fulfilling project requirements for a grade. Children are so creative and can find learning in many different ways. I have learned to slow down and ask questions before reacting. I want the studio to be a safe space for all students to explore, create, and learn. I really want to incorporate the studio habits of mind into whatever age classroom I end up teaching. During my art education in middle and high school we would talk a lot about the elements of art and the principles of design. While these things are important for making art. I think the studio habits of mind really encourage students to explore art making in a different way that involves deeper thinking. When talking about the student over everything, this to me means that I value each student as a person and will work with them so they can succeed in my class. I have personally struggled throughout my education and the classes I enjoyed and learned the most in were with teachers or professors who valued me as an individual and were willing to work with me instead of against me. I want to be a person that students feel comfortable going to with whatever they need. I believe creating positive student teacher relationships is beneficial to the students mental health as well as their academic success.
